Gray quartz covered patio in Schertz, TX installed by AES Flooring

Services we install in Schertz

For homes

  • Quartz for patios and pool decks. Colored quartz broadcast into the coating, then sealed with a clear topcoat. The texture gives you grip underfoot, wet or dry.

  • Garage floor epoxy and flake. A base coat, a full flake broadcast, then a clear topcoat. Tough, textured and easy to clean. See garage floor epoxy.

  • Polyaspartic topcoats. A topcoat that cures fast and holds up to sun better than many epoxies.

  • Metallic epoxy. A marbled finish. No two floors look the same.

  • Polished concrete. The slab itself, ground and polished. No coating to peel. See polished concrete.

See finished floors on our residential work page.

For businesses

  • Urethane cement for commercial kitchens, food plants and other washdown areas

  • Warehouse and industrial floors

  • ESD (static control) flooring

  • Parking garage deck coatings

  • Floors for schools

See commercial services.

Why outdoor slabs in Schertz need the right system

A coating is only as good as the slab under it, and an outdoor slab has it harder than a garage floor.

  • Clay soil. Cibolo Creek runs along the east side of Schertz, and a lot of the ground around it is clay. Clay swells when it's wet and shrinks when it dries. That movement cracks slabs, and patios and pool decks crack too. We repair cracks before we coat. Skip that and they show back through.

  • Sun. A patio or pool deck takes direct sun most of the year. UV yellows and chalks some epoxies. The topcoat on an outdoor job has to be UV-stable, or the floor won't look the same after a few summers.

  • Heat. A coated slab in July sun gets hot. A lighter color doesn't get as hot underfoot as a dark one. No coating stays cool in a Texas summer, and we'll tell you that up front.

  • Water. Rain, pool splash and hose-downs. Bare concrete soaks water up. A smooth coating gets slick when it's wet. Quartz gives the surface texture so you have footing.

  • Moisture from below. Concrete sits on the ground and can pull moisture up from it. Vapor pushing up under a coating causes bubbles and peeling. That's why we test before we quote.

No shortcuts. Proper prep. We grind the slab so the coating has something to bond to. Cleaning alone doesn't do that.

Recent Schertz jobs: a quartz patio and a flake garage

We've done two jobs at the same Schertz home: a full flake garage floor in August 2026 and a double broadcast quartz system on the covered patio in September 2026.

Covered patio: double broadcast quartz

  • What we started with. A bare concrete patio slab under a roof, with a wood railing on the open side and a wall of windows on the other.

  • Double broadcast quartz. Quartz broadcast into the coating twice, across the whole patio. Two broadcasts build up a textured surface that gives you footing.

  • Clean edges. Taped off clean at the posts.

Garage: full flake floor

  • Full flake broadcast. Flake broadcast across the whole garage floor, from the back wall out to the garage door.

We tell every customer when they can walk on the floor, when the furniture can go back and when they can park on it.

Veteran-owned, from the Hill Country

AES Flooring is owned and run by three Army veterans: Richard (Rick) Levada, Jason Adams and Mike De La Vega. We work in San Antonio and across the Hill Country, and Schertz is part of our regular service area.

We're family-run, fully insured and independent. Not a franchise. We're also an SBA-certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).

Our process

  1. Free onsite consult. We look at the slab, the cracks, the drainage and how you use the space.

  2. Moisture test, then the quote. You get a price based on your slab, not a guess.

  3. Grind and prep. We grind the concrete to open it up and take off contamination and weak surface material.

  4. Repair cracks and damaged concrete. Cracks, spalls and worn spots get fixed before any coating goes down.

  5. Coat and cure. Base coat, then quartz or flake, then the topcoat. Outdoors, we pick a UV-stable topcoat and plan the work around heat and weather.

  6. Back in use. We tell you when it's ready to walk on, put furniture back on or park on before we leave.

Schertz patio and floor coating FAQ

Is a quartz patio or pool deck slippery when it's wet?

Quartz is broadcast into the coating, so the surface has texture. That gives you more grip than a smooth coating. Any surface can be slick when it's wet, so we talk about how much texture you want at the consult. More texture means more grip. Less texture is easier to sweep and hose off.

Will the coating turn yellow in the sun?

Some epoxies yellow and chalk in direct sun. On patios and pool decks we use a UV-stable topcoat over the quartz. That's what keeps the color from shifting outdoors.

Does a coated patio get hot in the summer?

Any slab in direct Texas sun gets hot. A lighter color stays cooler than a dark one, so color matters on an uncovered deck. We'll go over colors with that in mind at the consult.

Will cracks in my patio come back through the coating?

Cracks we don't repair will show back through. Clay soil around Schertz moves with wet and dry seasons, so we repair cracks before we coat. Control joints in the slab are there on purpose. We go over how we handle them on your slab at the consult.

How much does a quartz patio or epoxy garage floor cost in Schertz?

It depends on the slab. Size, slab condition, crack repair, moisture readings and the system you pick all move the price. We quote after we've seen the slab. We come out, test it for moisture, look at the cracks and give you an estimate. The onsite consult is free.

Do you test for moisture before you quote?

Yes. Every slab gets a moisture test before we quote. Moisture coming up through concrete is a common reason coatings bubble and peel. If the reading is high, the system has to account for it. We'd rather find that out before we give you a price than after the floor fails.
